Over the past few decades, developments in medical science have fascinated individuals and societies across the globe. At the same time, however, the ethical nature of some of these developments and practices has been the source of much debate and disagreement. This book examines some of the more controversial developments, including assisted human reproduction and embryonic stem cell research, from the perspective of the Catholic moral tradition.
Providing questions to facilitate further reflection and group discussion, Pádraig Corkery draws on his experience of teaching bioethics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Favouring a less technical approach, however, Bioethics and the Catholic Moral Tradition is intended for a general audience who would like to learn more about this fascinating and complex subject.
Fr Pádraig Corkery is Head of the Department of Moral Theology and Dean of the Faculty of Theology in the Pontifical University at Maynooth.
