The play follows Brenda Barnes from her childhood to her forties as she aspires to be a writer. She misses the love of her parents who wanted a boy, and wish she would write something funny, rather than on the dirty linen of her family; but her parents have other problems.
Her life takes her from Galway to London and on to the southern hemisphere, before returning to London. In two acts and many scenes, flashbacks tell her story of relationships with her parent’s, her aunt and her granny, and from the convent schoolyard to the Jewish husband who spurned her.
While born in Galway, Geraldine Aron now lives between Cape Town and London. Among her other plays is Galway Girl.
An Nuada Players is a Maynooth drama group, founded in 1999.
