After nearly 24 years of service, Mona Byrne has retired from the Sacristy.
Mona was known by generations of seminarians for the meticulous care she took of the linens, and for her perfection in needlework. Demonstrating an art that has nearly died out in Ireland, Mona took great pride in the appearance of the linen and cotton for the sacred vessels and the altars in the College Chapel.
On Thursday 15th October 2009, the priests, seminarians, faculty and staff came together in Pugin Hall to celebrate with Mona on her retirement.
Monsignor Hugh Connolly presents the bouquet and Joseph Campbell presents the plaque on behalf of the seminarians. Kevin Coleman presented another bouquet on behalf of the sacristans.
Monsignor Hugh Connolly, Mona Byrne, with her daughter Tricia and son-in-law Leon
and Rev Michael Mullaney attended the gathering of seminarians, faculty and staff to honour Mona on her retirement.
