Some highlights of 2011:
Carol Service: 14 December 2011
The two universities and the seminary came together in a celebration of Christmas that was attended by leaders of Church and State, as well as the Diplomatic Corps, leaders of education, industry and enterprise. Guests were the invitees of the two Presidents, Monsignor Hugh Connolly of Saint Patrick’s College and Professor Philip Nolan of NUI Maynooth. Click heading for more pictures.

- Rebuilding the Organ is the last major project in the College Chapel
The organ has had two major rebuilds in its life, in the 1920's and in the 1970's. However, by now, a total rebuild is required
The project will take two years. Some of the ranks will be totally replaced, while others will be voiced and polished, and returned to their setting on the Gallery in the Summer of 2013.

The second issue of the MTJ is now available. It contains ten articles from students of Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth. The journal may be purchased at a price of €4 in the Theology office.

- Feast of the Immaculate Conception, 8th December 2011
Mass will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Oratory at 12.05 p.m. on this special feastday. All are welcome.
During term, the Eucharist is celebrated in Saint Mary's Oratory every day at 12.05 p.m., while the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is available in Saint Joseph's Oratory every Tuesday from 12.30 p.m. - 1.00 p.m. All are welcome.
The stained glass window is part of the triptych which forms the first window on the South side of the College Chapel. It shows three of the significant events in the life of Mary; the Immaculate Conception, the Annunciation and the Visitation.

Save the Date
The Annual Maynooth Union Day will take place on 29th May 2012. This is a little earlier than in previous years due to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress (10th to 17th June 2012).
The Maynooth Union classes for the reunion in 2012 will include the following: 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011.

- Alignment of Pontifical University Academic Award with the National Qualifations Framework
The academic programmes and awards of the Pontifical University were aligned with the National Qualifications Framework by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland.
The National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) provides a way for everyone – graduates, employers and other third level institutions – to understand and compare qualifications, and to ensure that they are quality assured and recognised at home and abroad.

- 'Text, Targum & Testament': A Conference in Honour of Martin McNamara MSC -
Thursday 17th November 2011
The Pontifical University, St Patrick's College Maynooth will honour the contribution of Martin McNamara MSC to biblical scholarship on Thursday, November 17th with the conferring of a doctorate honoris causa on Professor McNamara. In this context the Faculty of Theology are hosting a conference in Martin's honour under the heading "Text, Targum and Testament."
Ecclesial Movements & Communities: Reverend Professor Brendan Leahy - November 2011
People on the lookout for trends in the Catholic Church will be very happy to discover Rev Professor Brendan Leahy's new book: Ecclesial Movements and Communities. “He reviews the rise and development over the last 50 years of movements such as Charismatic Renewal, Communion and Liberation, Cursillo, Focolare, L'Arche, Legion of Mary, the Neocatechumenal Way and Sant'Egidio. In doing so, he also explores issues that arise.

The talk will be given by Reverend Joseph Carola,
Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
- Mass for Deceased - 8th November 2011

There will be a Mass for all who have died on Tuesday, 8 November, at 12.05pm, in St. Mary's Oratory, St. Patrick's College. We will be remembering all deceased students and staff of St Patrick's College and NUIM, and the relatives and friends of the staff and students of both colleges, including those who have died since our last November Mass.
- Ireland's oldest native tree?

The Tree Council of Ireland, has concluded that the Yew Tree at the entrance to Saint Patrick's College is Ireland's oldest native tree! It is commonly known as the Silken Thomas Tree.
- Pope John Paul II Theological Society:

'Catholic Spirituality: God’s Initiative, Man’s Response' - Monday 24th October 2011
The Blessed Pope John Paul II Theological Society will be holding this talk on Monday 24th October 2011 in Renehan Hall at 7.30pm.
The panel includes speakers from the Dominican Friars, the Benedictines of Rostrevor, the Carmelite nuns of Knock and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

- New Book: Living in Union with Christ in Today's World - October 2011

Last year, the College hosted a conference on ‘The Witness of John Calvin and Ignatius Loyola’ to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the reformer’s birth. The conference papers from Presbyterian and Roman Catholic academics have recently appeared in a volume edited by Rev Brendan McConvery CSsR. Contributors to this volume from the Saint Patrick’s College community include Professor Salvador Ryan, Rev Brendan McConvery, Rev Professor Liam Tracey, and Rev Laurence Murphy SJ.

- Last Ordination of 2011: 9th October 2011
The Most Reverend Michael Smith,Bishop of Meath will ordain Deacon Kevin Heery, anative of Mullingar on Sunday 9th October at 3.00pm in the Cathedral of Christ and King. All of us here in St Patrick's College, Maynooth would like to wish Kevin and our ordinands of 2011 heartiest congratulations and prayerful best wishes for a long and fruitful ministry.

The Maynooth Theological Journal (MTJ) is now opening the call for papers for its second issue.The preferred length for an article is circa 2,000 words. The closing date for submissions is Friday, 4 November 2011. Papers are to be submitted by e-mail as a Microsoft Word attachment to mtj@spcm.ie

September 2011 - Kalendarium Online!
The Kalendarium is an annual publication of Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth, aimed at students, prospective students and seminarians providing information on the Seminary, the Pontifical University and courses for the current year. The book, which is now available in hard copy also provides a record of students, ordinations and orders in the Seminary. The editor is Louise Hennessy.
- New seminarians begin studies for the priesthood - 28 August
2011
Maynooth College today welcomed the men who begin their studies for priesthood. This group includes a chartered surveyor, a pub manager, several mature students and at least one school leaver. The average age of the new entrants is 25 years old, and they come from 14 of the 26 dioceses of Ireland.
Parking Update: 1 September 2011
Saint Patrick's College Traffic Management and Parking Policy for the 2011/12 academic year will come into operation on Monday, 26th September, 2011. Enforcement will apply from 08:30 – 18:00, Monday to Saturday throughout the academic year. Enforcement will be carried out by APCOA Parking Management Ireland Ltd on behalf of Saint Patrick’s College.

Maynooth College will host a major international symposium on The Eucharist from Wednesday 6th June to Saturday 9th June 2012. This symposium is scheduled for the week before the 50th International Eucharistic Congress which will be held in Dublin from 10th to 17th June 2012.

Saint Patrick's College honoured with a special stamp
Saint Patrick's College is honoured by An Post (the Irish postal
service) publishing the 82c postage stamp featuring a carving
of Saint Patrick from the spire of the College Chapel.
The College then featured the stamp on the 2011 card for Saint Patrick's Day which is sent to Friends of Maynooth around the world.

- Evening Prayer for Christian Unity, 8 March 2011 at 7.00 p.m.
St Patrick’s College has a tradition of inviting a member of another Christian tradition to join us for Evening Prayer during Lent and to share some thoughts with us on a topic and piece of scripture of their own choosing. This year, Rev Janice Aiton, local Church of Ireland minister and NUIM Chaplaincy associate will be our guest speaker. The Evening Prayer will be offered for Unity among Christians.
All are welcome to join us at 7.00 p.m. in Saint Mary's Oratory.

- In Memoriam: Rev Ernan McMullin
A most distinguished member of the ordination class of 1949 died on 8th February 2011 in his native Donegal.
Fr McMullin had been conferred with a Doctorate in Philosophy, Honoris Causa by the Pontifical University in 1995, the College's bicentenary year. He was 86 years old.
