Two trips are arranged each year, a trip abroad and a trip to an Irish location. Founded in 1995, when Professor Martin Downes led a group of colleagues on a trip to the Céide Fields in County Mayo, The Wild Geese struck a chord, and annual trips in Ireland have followed to Kilkenny, South Wexford - the site of the Norman landings in Bag in Bun, Boyle, Sligo, Westport and Cork. In each case, a member of staff has been knowledgeable on the area, and has enriched the whole experience for the group.
Paris, Budapest, the Normandy Beaches, Copenhagen, Prague and most recently, Bruge have all been venues for the European trips. We seek out historical, cultural and educational venues and have fun, while good food and fine wine enrich the experience.
This year, our autumn trip is planned for Berlin, departing on Thursday 9th and returning on Sunday 12th September 2010.
You will be most welcome, to join The Wild Geese and partake of the fun. The contact person is Mary Weld, Mary.Weld@nuim.ie and we would love to have you with us. If you have some new members of staff, please let them know.
