Some highlights of 2010:
- Campus Closed during Christmas Holiday
24 December 2010 - 4 January 2011
The grounds of the College will be closed from 12 noon on Friday 24 December 2010 until Tuesday 4 January 2011. Access will be provided to faculty and staff of the College and University as required.
Carol Service: 13, 14 & 15 December 2010
For three nights, the wonder of the first Christmas is retold in Carols and Readings.
Over 2,000 students and seminarians, faculty and staff and many visitors to the College enjoy three nights of joy.

Bioethics and the Catholic Moral Tradition

Pádraig Corkery has just launched his new volume. Drawing on his experience of teaching bioethics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, this volume is intended for a general audience who would like to learn more about this fascinating and complex subject.
College Closed Thursday 2nd December until Monday 6th.
Snow brings a Winter Wonderland to Maynooth
Due to the severe weather conditions, St Patrick's College, and NUIM will be closed until Monday next, 6th December.
The College has taken this decision in the interests of the safety of students and staff, and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this decision.
Christmas Card Sale - December 201

Saint Joseph, the Man chosen by God is featured on this year's College Christmas Card. The painting is from the Maynooth College Collection, an oil painting on canvas (105 x 120 cm). The elderly Saint Joseph appears to be taking the infant Jesus with him for a walk, but in the full picture, Mary is depicted in the shadows keeping an eye on them both.

26 & 27 November 2010: St Patrick's College Open Days
Open Days are a great opportunity for prospective students, parents, teachers and guidance counsellors to find out more about the University and what we have to offer.
Each day will involve a range of talks, tours of the campus and information sessions. We coordinate our Open Days with NUIM, so that you can see all that the Campus has to offer.

November 2010: Maynooth Theological Journal
St Patrick's College, Maynooth will launch the Maynooth Theological Journal in the Spring of 2011. This annual journal will provide a scholarly forum for both undergraduate and post graduate students to share their theological work and research interests. Students are invited to submit papers for the first issue of the Maynooth Theological Journal before Monday 31st January 2011.

Most Rev Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin will launch the collected papers of the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Conferences of the Patristic Symposium on Wednesday, 24 November at 7.30.p.m. in Renehan Hall.
Richard FitzRalph: His Life, Times and Thought
15 - 17 November 2010
A Conference in the Philosophy Department to commemorate the 650th anniversary of his death: Richard FitzRalph was a 14th century churchman, Chancellor of Oxford University and Archbishop of Armagh, who died in Avignon on 16th November 1360.

Pontifical University Degrees and Diplomas
6th November 2010
Degrees and Diplomas were conferred by His Eminence Cardinal Seán Brady in the College Chapel on Saturday, 6th November. 140 graduands were conferred in the faculties of Philosophy and Theology, 28 of whom were at post-graduate level.

visits Maynooth 21 October 2010.
Kandhamal has been in the news for the slaughter and persecution of the Christians at Christmas 2007 and again in the summer of 2008. Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar in Northern India, Most Reverend Raphael Cheenath SVD visited the College and was welcomed by the President, Monsignor Hugh Connolly.

John Calvin and Ignatius Loyola Friday 8th / Saturday 9th October, 2010

John Calvin, French Protestant Reformer, and Ignatius Loyola, Spanish founder of the Society of Jesus, were for a brief time contemporaries in the Sorbonne.
St Patrick’s College, Maynooth will host a conference that will bring the inheritance of both these figures into dialogue. Both Calvin and Loyola were Sorbonne men. Six of the founding fathers of St Patrick’s College, had been professors of the Sorbonne.

Exhibition in Russell Library containing John Henry Newman’s letter to Dr Charles Russell - Monday 20 September - Thursday 7 October 2010:

On 8 October 1845, as Maynooth College celebrated its Golden Jubilee, John Henry Newman wrote to Dr Charles Russell, Professor of Ecclesiastical History in Maynooth. ‘I am expecting this evening Father Dominic the Passionist, whom I shall ask to admit me to the bosom of the Catholic Church’.
On Sunday next, Pope Benedict XVI is expected to beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman in Birmingham. Newman's letter is in the College Archives, and you are invited to view it and other items in the exhibition in the Russell Library.

3 September 2010 - Kalendarium is now available online
The Kalendarium is an annual publication of Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth, aimed atstudents, prospective students and seminarians providing information on the Seminary, the Pontifical University and courses for the current year. The book, which will be available in hard copy from next week also provides a record of students,ordinations and orders in the Seminary. The editor is Louise Hennessy.

Fourteen new seminarians - 22 August 2010
St Patrick’s College Maynooth has today welcomed fourteen new seminarians who will commence their formation for the priesthood at the National Seminary. At the end of September the number of seminarians in Maynooth will be approximately 70.

Maynooth Castle is open to visitors for the Summer months.
10.00 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. daily until October.
Maynooth Castle is located at the main entrance to the College. The FitzGerald family who built the Castle around 1200 provided Stoyte House and the land on which Maynooth College was founded in 1795.

Maynooth College Lapel-Pin
The Maynooth College Lapel-Pin is once again available from the Development Office. Supplied in a handsome lined gift-box it can make an ideal memento for students, alumni, priests or students of the College and Pontifical University.
Cost: €10.00 includes a donation to the Seminary Fund.

Filming on Campus - Summer 2010
The College Buildings and Grounds provide a rich tapestry of locations for film producers and directors. During the Summer months, several film crews avail of the campus features and facilities to produce documentaries, advertisments and drama productions.
June 2010 - Ordinations to the Priesthood 2010:
Six students from St Patrick’s College, Maynooth are being ordained to the priesthood in 2010. These ordinations are currently taking place in dioceses throughout the country, with one ceremony in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Gospel of Luke by Reverend Michael Mullins

Fr Michael Mullins, former Professor of Sacred Scripture at Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth, has completed his fourth commentary on the Evangelists.
Entitled The Gospel of Luke it was launched in Ballybricken, Waterford where Fr Mullins is now Parish Priest.

Cardinal Brady presents icons to the Diamond Jubilarians

15 June 2010: Maynooth Union celebration
Members of the jubilee classes of 1950, 1960 and 1985 are particularly welcome. Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor will be the guest speaker at our Union celebrations in this Year for Priests. The Ordination Class of 1950 is illustrated, whose members celebrate their diamond jubilee.

The Maynooth Alumni Association honoured two of the College's most luminous former students at the annual Alumni Ball on 12 June 2010. Ireland’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason received the President’s Alumni Award for 2010, while Mary O’Rourke TD was named as the inaugural member of the “Made in Maynooth” alumni hall of fame.

Ordination to Diaconate
It takes up to six years of formation in human, spiritual, pastoral and academic fields for candidates to reach Diaconate. Family and friends join them for the ceremony in the College Chapel, making this day the highlight of the Seminary year.

The Irish Chamber Choir of Paris
Newsflash: 19 April 2010
Due to the Icelandic Volcanic Ash in our skies, the Irish Chamber Choir of Paris will not be able to travel to Ireland this week. Hence the programme which was to take place in the College Chapel at Maynooth on Friday has been cancelled. We sincerely hope that the programme can be rescheduled, and will take place at another time.

Maynooth College Collection receives gift from the FNCI
An Eviction - a gift to the Maynooth College Collection from the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland. The painting was presented by Dr John Turpin, President of the FNCI in the company of members of the Council.
The painting further enhances the College's collection, and it is hoped it will inspire others to contribute works and help to build the Maynooth College Collection.

Sigerson Cup hosted by Maynooth
Students, faculty and staff of Saint Patrick's College wish the Maynooth team every succes. Maynooth will play DCU in the semi-final on Friday 26th February and the final will be held in Leixlip GAA-Club on Saturday, 27th February. The last time the cup was claimed by Maynooth was when Saint Patrick's College took the honours in 1976.
