Postgraduate Studies

The Theology Faculty’s own postgraduate section, accounting for approximately 30% of its students, offers postgraduate qualifications from Higher Diploma to doctoral level. The Master’s Degree in Theology (MTh) is offered to students who reach an appropriate standard in their primary Theology degree. The Master's programme includes the possibility of specialising in either Moral Theology, Systematic Theology, Biblical Theology or Pastoral Liturgy. A Doctorate in Theology (PhD) programme is also available.

For those interested in music, we also have a Master's Degree in Liturgical Music (MLM) on offer.

Alternatively, candidates may pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Christian Communication and Development (applicants apply to Kairos Communications for this programme:

A Master’s Degree in Theology (MTh) specialising in Pastoral Theology is also on offer and can be taken full-time over two years, or part-time over three years. This course has a separate application form (see below).

Holders of Postgraduate Degrees in Theology from Maynooth are to be found at all levels of the teaching profession, including universities abroad, but also in the media and in the public service.
